We have all heard the stories about making $30,000 a month, $793 a day, and so on. The real question is are business owners out there making those kinds of numbers, and what are they doing? If they are making that kind of money, is their overhead running at $29,900 a month or $790 a day respectively? You have to keep everything in perspective or you can lose sight of the end goal.

One thing they do mention in most of those ‘come on’ advertisements is that you can do it with little or no effort. Well, there is no such thing as a ‘free lunch’ and there is no business that runs itself while you make thousands of dollars while surfing on the beach.

Want to start a business, either on the Internet or in the normal ‘brick and mortar’ way? You are going to really have to work at it. Whether you wish to succeed on the Internet or in the real world, you are going to have to W-O-R-K to make it happen.

First, find the type of business or product you wish to market. This can be as simple as doing associate marketing on the Internet or selling cupcakes in a storefront in your hometown. Makes absolutely no difference what you want to do; you just have to know what that is. Once you know that, then you are ready to make a plan.

What is a ‘plan’? The plan is how do you market yourself, your product, and your way of doing business. If you do not know, you cannot possibly succeed. It is not that hard to do this, but you have to quit dreaming of making money until you realize how you can actually do that.

How can you bring this ‘plan’ into existence? You can go online and do research; you compile the information in a database; you can visit local businesses doing what you want to do. Watch and inquire into what they do. Look at successful people who are doing what you would like to do. You will find most business owners are very glad to share what they have done with entrepreneurs just getting started. There are definitely some who won’t, but don’t let them discourage you. The information is out there, you have to go get it.

Once you have a plan that is well thought out, then you must put it into action. The only thing holding you back will be you. Remember that it won’t be easy, it won’t be fast, but once you open your doors you will be glad you did.
